This past week, while I worked on “Ahoy there”:
- I was in the audience for a live recording of The Town. Matt Belloni and Lucas Shaw interviewed Matthew Greenfield, President of Searchlight Pictures.
- I read Aliya Whiteley’s The Misheard World and immediately texted my sisters to tell them to pick it up; and I read My Search for Warren Harding, by Robert Plunket, which I’d been meaning to get to and finally, happily, did this week.
- Also finally saw Computer Chess, a disquieting delight.
- I finished watching both seasons of The Tourist. Gripping stuff and Jamie Dornan's character wears a jaunty little neck scarf in the second season that has me wanting one too.
- The CBC Massey Lectures 2026 launched here in Toronto and I went to the first talk by this year’s lecturer, Leilani Farha. Farha spoke about the worldwide housing crisis.
- On repeat this week: “The Mistral Noir”, a brass instrumental song by Daniel Herskedal, and Burial's "Endorphin" (though truly he's always on repeat).
- I went to the Coachhouse Books Wayzgoose, a yearly party held in a laneway behind the press's historic building in the Annex.
- And I danced my face off to Francis Mercier, Gordo, and Drake at the Portlands, in Toronto. Fireworks, pyrotechnics, and a sunset with a view of the city, yes.
